The Bookshelf at the moment continues to receive recognition. Monica provided an in-depth interview about The Bookshelf and a brief look into her life.
As many people living in Europe know, various countries of Europe struggle economically. As a result, Polish, Spanish, Greek, and Croatians leave their countries to other economically strong countries like Ireland, Germany, France, Netherlands, and the Nordic countries. Monica left Poland. She worked for awhile as a assistant manager in another company. However, being an assist manager did not appeal to her nature.
Monica appreciated coffee. Each day for her starts with a daily ritual that pays tribute to coffee. She has her first cup and then starts concentrating on what requires her attention. As her appreciation and respect for coffee deepened, so did her desire to want to work with coffee. So, her career at The Bookshelf Coffee Co began.
At work, the Black Eagle Espresso Machine demands her attention for the first half hour. When she comes into the Bookshelf Coffee Shop, Monica has to experiment and taste various types espresso or coffees to find the most suitable recipe to be served for the day.
The general recipe takes on the shape of 17.5grams of ground coffee, brewed between 27 and 30 seconds, with a temperature between 88 and 95 degrees.
Besides having an amazing coffee recipe, what else makes the Bookshelf stand out. Monica emphasized repeatedly that the Bookshelf staff are extended family. They all contribute and consider one another equal. When one of the staff expresses a desire to learn or further develop themselves as a barista, the Bookshelf willing helps him or her. The Bookshelf will send the staff to Dublin to get extra training or send him/her to competitions if the desire is there.
Last year, 2016, Monica expressed interest in going to a barista championship in Dublin.
The Bookshelf helped her prepare and sent her to Dublin. She came in prepared as well as she thought she would need to be for this event. Keep in mind this was her first event, as a barista. What she didn’t realize was that she had entered for the World Barista Championship. To say the least, she knew that she was completely unprepared; regardless, she persisted. Monica, completed her presentation. She did her best to explain everything that she knew. With her head held high, she came came back to Cork. She may not have won. Never the less, Monica had competed in a World Competition.
